8 Fun & Easy Ways to Embrace International Women's Day

Today women and men worldwide come together to celebrate and embrace International Women's Day (IWD). This day is marked to celebrate women's social, economic, cultural, and political achievements and a call to action for accelerating women's equality. This year's theme is #EmbraceEquity.

Here are 8 fun and easy ways for you to get involved, celebrate, and embrace this special day:

1. Volunteer or donate to a charity or organization that supports women and girls. Consider supporting organizations that work towards issues such as education, health, or economic empowerment for women.

2. Share inspiring stories of women who have made a significant impact in their fields. You can share inspiring quotes by women or even how a remarkable woman in your life inspired and empowered you! You can share these stories online, at work, or while spending quality time with your loved ones today.

3. This year's theme is #EmbraceEquity. Share your inspiring stories online and help raise awareness about gender equality issues. Use hashtags #IWD2023, #EmbraceEquity

4. Support your women friends and family in business. You can support women in business by purchasing or recommending their products or services, liking and sharing their social media posts, or even offering positive words of encouragement.

5. Become a mentor. Encourage women in your local community to take on leadership roles or become a mentor to a woman just starting in business. WeBC is an excellent BC mentorship program supporting women leaders and women business owners to succeed.

6. Celebrate all the women in your life by sending them messages of appreciation or giving them a small gift to show your support.

7. Wear purple today! Purple is the core color of International Women's Day because it signifies justice and dignity.

8. Strike the #EmbraceEquity pose! Take a photo embracing yourself and then upload and share your photo on your social media or on the International Women’s website.

How I will embrace this day:

I will embrace and honor this day by attending Vernon's women in business luncheon with Jenelle Brewer as the guest speaker. Jenelle has recently written her memoirs Releasing Jezebel: Embracing the Lioness Within. In her book, she shares how childhood trauma leads to lack of self-worth, shame, and addiction. She also shares reflections on her life, her growth, and the healing process that has allowed her to be the successful woman she is today despite her tragic story.

I am so happy and grateful to learn more about her story and how she turned her pain into her power. Learn more about Jenelle.

Remember, the fight for gender equality is ongoing! No matter how you decide to embrace this day, it's essential to keep working towards it every day, not just on International Women's Day.
